Dana White Confirms Conor McGregor’s UFC Return “Not Fighting Anytime Soon”

UFC President Dana White says Conor McGregor’s comeback remains uncertain after injuries and outside ventures. Here’s the latest on McGregor’s future in the Octagon.

White Moves On from McGregor for Now

UFC President Dana White delivered a sobering update on former two-division champion Conor McGregor, who hasn’t fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

“He’s Not Fighting Anytime Soon”

In a recent interview with journalist Adam Glyn, White acknowledged earlier optimism about a 2025 return but admitted the timeline is now unclear.

“He’s not fighting anytime soon. I haven’t talked to him in a minute, but yeah, I don’t know.”

Complicating Factors

McGregor’s planned June bout with Michael Chandler fell through after the Irish star suffered a toe injury during training. Outside the Octagon, McGregor has pursued acting—starring in the 2024 remake of Road House—and business ventures.

Legal issues have also surfaced. In 2024 McGregor was found liable in a civil suit over a 2018 Dublin incident and now faces a separate 2023 Miami lawsuit alleging sexual assault.

White’s Search for the Next Superstar

Despite McGregor’s uncertain future, White insists the UFC will find new talent—though none will match “The Notorious” in impact.

“There will never be another Conor McGregor. There will be another superstar that pops up, but there will never be another Conor McGregor. There will never be another Ronda Rousey, there will never be another Chuck Liddell, ‘GSP.’ Somebody will pop up.”

“They make themselves. A hundred percent. We find people who have talent and obviously if you have the personality that all those other people have that we were just talking about, that’s incredible, but I’m always just looking for the best fighters in the world and the rest is up to them.”

What’s Next for McGregor?

With two fights still on his UFC contract, McGregor’s next steps remain shrouded in speculation. Will he focus on rehab and training, or continue exploring ventures outside fighting? Only time will tell if “The Notorious” will ever step back into the Octagon.
